Sadly, Nick “Norman Gentle” Mitchell was not in. Guess his very entertaining performance was tainted by AI judge Simon Cowell’s negative comments. Hmmp! So who are the lucky 3 contestants joining Alexis Grace, Danny Gokey and Michael Sarver in American Idol season 8 finals?
Yup, the second group of the top 36 semifinalists are finally up! Will the 12 contestants in this group make the right song choices? Will they sing for the votes or will they crack under pressure? Watch the videos below and tell me what you think! =)
READ ON! =) List is courtesy of MTV.com — awesome roundup guys!
1. Nick “Norman Gentle” Mitchell – best known for his comedic antics and spangly shirt-and-headband outfit. MTV says, “The comedian/singer is one of the most unlikely “Idol” top-36 contestants to date, and it remains to be seen if his funnyman shtick will fly with voters after he charmed the judges in Hollywood.” 2. Adam Lambert – another flamboyant singer who has won praise and some criticism for his musical-theater, diva-esque vocals. 3. Megan Corkrey – 22-year old divorced mother whose soulful voice is as colorful as her sleeve of tattoos 4. Jasmine Murray – 16-year old Starkville, Mississippi soul belter and “Team Diva” survivor 5. Allison Iraheta – another 16-year old semifinalist (from LA) who idolizes Pink, Jack White and Franz Ferdinand 6. Kai Kalama – the bearded guy who used to rock out in a band called Offwhite with his brother

Yup, the gregarious and funny singer will be performing this week — in the Second Group of the Top 36! Will he advance to the American Idol season 8 finals? That remains to be seen and before we come to that, let’s get to know Nick “Norman Gentle” Mitchell =) In a 15-minute interview with The News-Times, the semifinalist from Brookfield High School revealed how he’s enjoying the American Idol experience. Nick Mitchell says the pressure “is a lot, but it’s awesome. I’ve been open about this from the beginning — I never expected to get this far in the competition. I’m a different kind of contestant. I’m a comedian more than a singer. I didn’t even think I’d get past the first round.”
For those not in the know, Nick Mitchell is the second Brookfield High School graduate, along with Julia DeMato, to advance on American Idol. He shared, “I was actually in chorus with her. It’s crazy. Julia was definitely awesome. I haven’t been able to talk to her about this yet.” As for his family’s support, Norman Gentle’s alter-ego says, “My dad and my family have been so supportive. When I quit baseball to do musicals in high school, instead of bringing me to a Yankee game each year, my dad brought me to a Broadway show. He adapted to me. He is the best father in the world.”
If the names sound familiar to you, its because they’re two of the three lucky American Idol 8 contestants (the third is 21-year-old mom Alexis Grace) who will be this season’s Top 12! =) Danny Gokey, the one who lost his wife 7 months ago, apologized to people who felt he had an unfair advantage in the early stages of the show (his sob story has won widespread sympathy and attention). David Gokey told reporters,
“I do feel like I was highlighted [by 'Idol' producers]. I didn’t do anything to get that … I have no control over it. It’s a bummer when people are mad about it and I hope people can see past that. This is a sob story. I don’t want it but it is shaping my life and it is causing hope for a lot of people … There is a fun side of me that’s going to come out. I apologize to everybody if they feel like it’s shoved in their faces, but it’s me.”
Meanwhile, Texas oil worker Michael Sarver who has two young children and has been profiled as a hard working American, said the exposure had helped him win crucial early support with viewers. He told reporters, “I acknowledge that the hard working American is part of the appeal. I believe real life Americans can relate to me … It’s not that my life is bad, but it is tough.”
After watching the wrenching Hollywood week episodes, I’m just glad that the top 36 American Idol contestants are now singing their hearts out on the AI stage! And the first group of 12 contenders were awesome!! =) Of course some were blah and boring but that’s how contests go. Anyway, here’s the American Idol Top 36 – First Group – Song Choice List:
Alexis Grace: “Never Loved A Man” Ann Marie Boskovich: “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” Anoop Desai: “Angel Of Mine” Brent Keith: “Hicktown” Casey Carlson: “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” Danny Gokey: “Hero” Jackie Tohn: “A Little Less Conversation” Michael Sarver: “I Don’t Want To Be” Ricky Braddy: “A Song For You” Stephen Fowler: “Rock With You” Stevie Wright: “You Belong With Me” Tatiana Del Toro: “Saving All My Love For You”
So, who were the top 3 who advanced as American Idol season 9 finalists? Widower Danny Gokey, Texas oil worker Michael Sarver, and 21-year-old mom Alexis Grace! I felt sad for Anoop and Ricky so I hope they’ll have a second chance as wild cards..
