Another shocker: it’s not gonna be the “Adam Lambert-Danny Gokey showdown” that pundits have been predicting! No worries, Adam is in and he’s gonna fight it out with the soul man Kris Allen, the dark horse who’ve come a looong way! And with a record-breaking 88 million votes cast and with just 1 million separating the top two finalists, Kris might just win the most exciting season of American Idol ever! According to Simon Cowell, after the results were announced,

“None of us would have predicted this, guys … no disrespect because you were brilliant last night and just now … by the way, Danny, congratulations. But Kris, your second song ["Heartless"] in particular made you a contender. You’re in with a real shot. Adam, you know we’ve always liked you. This could be what we call a big ding-dong coming up next week.

Here’s a short recap: Katy Perry performed her latest single, “Waking Up In Vegas” with an elaborate sexy Elvis costume with “Adam Lambert” emblazoned on the cape. Jordin Sparks also performed her first single “Battlefield” from her as-yet-untitled upcoming second album. And with just minutes left in the show, Ryan Seacrest finally broke the tension by first announcing that Kris Allen would be in the finale, bringing a look of sheer surprise to the 23-year-old singer’s face. And then it was Adam Lambert’s turn — he was safe! And so we now wait for next Wednesday.. ^_^

Yes boys and girls, it’s the all-important episode — the top 3 finalists battling it out for a spot in the much-awaited finale! This week’s theme was “Judge’s choice/ contestants choice” and so Kris Allen, Danny Gokey and Adam Lambert sang two songs each. And it was a night full of awesome music! Danny opened the show with a version of Terrence Trent D’Arby’s “Dance Little Sister” picked by Paula Abdul. The four American Idol judges liked the vocals but not the dancing. Later he sung an acoustic version of Joe Cocker’s “You Are So Beautiful” and was once again praised.

Kris Allen sang One Republic’s “Apologize” with piano picked for him by Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi. He was lambasted for not making the song his own. But Kris redeemed himself with his song choice of Kanye West’s “Heartless” — Randy said it was “better than the original” and Simon Cowell said that it put him back in the race =) Last to perform was Adam Lambert with Simon Cowell’s pick: “One” by U2. As expected, all judges loved his rendition. Adam’s song choice was Aerosmith’s “Cryin”. And it was once again an awesome performance. So, who will move on?? Find out tomorrow!

Adam Lambert was once again in the “bottom three” after Kris Allen was told first he was safe. Ryan Seacrest, however, clarified that he was calling the safe finalists in no particular order. Phew! For a minute there I thought Adam will once again be in the bottom two like last time. And to think over 64 million votes were cast!! I’m sure more than half of that went to Adam, LOL! Anyhoo, a brief recap: Paula Abdul performed on American Idol for the first time as she debuted her new single, “I’m Just Here for the Music.” Then the reunited ska-rockers No Doubt performed. They sang one of their biggest hits, “Just a Girl” and announced that they’re going on tour. The night’s final performance was from season 5 fourth-place finisher Chris Daughtry, who debuted the first single from his band’s second album, the melodic, midtempo rocker “No Surprise.”

After the three performances, Ryan Seacrest moved on to business. Kris Allen earlier got the first safe and with six minutes left in the show, Ryan said Adam Lambert was safe. Left were Danny Gokey and Allison Iraheta in a heart-thumping moment of uncertainty. Then Danny was deemed safe despite his shoddy performance the night before. That left Allison — and she took the news like a pro — laughing a bit, shedding a few tears, pumping her fist and soaking in her final few moments on the American Idol stage. Keep the faith gurl! :-)

It was another historic night for American Idol — the show’s first contestants’ duet debuted to wild acclaim! =) This week’s guest mentor was rock superstar Slash. The most surprising thing about him was that he was lucid and was actually giving good pointers to the top 4! Anyway, here’s a quick recap: Adam Lambert kicked off the night with “Whole Lotta Love” by Led Zeppelin. He sang it in its original entirety and nailed it to the audience and judges’ delight. Allison Iraheta performed Janis Joplin’s screaming “Cry Baby”. She got mixed reviews from the four judges.

Next up was Kris Allen and Danny Gokey’s duet on “Renegade”. They were awesome!! Simon Cowell thought Danny sang better. Then Kris Allen performed the Beatles’ “Come Together”. The judges skewered his performance but personally I thought it was amazing! Kris isn’t a rocker so it was a surprise he managed to perform well =) Last was Danny Gokey who did Aerosmith’s “Dream On”. The highlight was whether he will hit the famous last note — he did but sounded like a wailing cat! LOL! The judges gave him A+ for courage ;-)

Even off-show, things are pretty dramatic in America’s most popular show eh? According to reports, 2 accidents on the stage of “American Idol” happened as they rehearsed prior its live broadcast on Tuesday night. The first incident occurred roughly two hours before showtime where stage manager, Debbie Williams, fell from near the top of the retractable staircase that extends from the set’s second story down to the middle of the main stage. Fox Broadcasting said, “During rehearsal today a crew member had a mishap on set and was immediately taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.”

The second accident occurred a short time after the first. Ryan Seacrest said at the top of Tuesday night’s show, “We have had an unconventional day. Had a couple of things happen here on this set. Unfortunately we had an accident earlier here on our stage, but it didn’t end there.” Seacrest then pointed to the two giant globe-like “Idol” logos that flank the stage, one of which was hanging nearly upside down. He said it “collapsed” just a few moments before that afternoon’s dress rehearsal, sending shards of glass all over the stage. Jill Hudson, a spokeswoman for Fox, said no one was injured in that incident. Ryan Seacrest continued,

“So the contestants have not had a proper run-through for the show,” he said. “But as they say in Hollywood, the show must go on.”

In American Idol results night on May 6 (Wednesday night), the band Daughtry will take the stage and introduce to the world to their new single “No Surprise.” The song was co-written by Chris Daughtry, Nickelback’s lead vocalist Chad Kroeger, former Click Five lead vocalist Eric Dill, and Danish songwriter/producer Rune Westberg. Chris, as we all know, is an American Idol finalist who was booted off way before he was due. But that didn’t stop him from being successful in the music industry. If you’ve been living under a rock, Chris Daughtry and his band has sold over 4 million copies in the US alone.

But wait, there’s more! It was the fastest selling debut rock album ever. It included five top 40 pop singles, two of them reached the top 10 (“It’s Not Over” and “Home”). The album also generated four Grammy Award nominations for Best Rock Album, Best Rock Song, Best Rock Performance By a Duo or Group With Vocal, and Best Pop Performance By a Duo or Group With Vocal. All of this from the man who only finished fourth on American Idol. So yeah, losing doesn’t always mean having a crap music career. Chris Daughtry has proven that and more!

It was a shocking results night to say the least! It was even more melodramatic than the double elimination night! Why? Number one shocker: American Idol got another record-breaking number of votes. From 35 million to 45 million last week to 47 million this week! And that’s for 5 finalists only — can I say WOW?? ^_^ Number 2 shocker, Simon Cowell thought everybody performed well last night — as in everybody! That’s a lot coming from Mr. Grouchy himself ;-p Number 3 shocker and perhaps the most shocking of all: Adam Lambert was in the bottom 2!!! Man, I didn’t saw that coming! o_O

Anyway, here’s how it went down: Matt Giraud, Kris Allen and Adam Lambert were the bottom 3 while Danny Gokey and Allison Iraheta (finally!!) were immediately given the safe pass. Natalie Cole then performed and she was followed by one-time “American Idol” winner Taylor Hicks. Actor/singer Jamie Foxx, who mentored the contestants for Tuesday night’s performance show, also performed. And then finally, Matt Giraud was booted off. The wild card entry’s nine lives has just ended.. Good luck Matt!! ^_^ CLICK HERE FOR THE ENTIRE VIDEO OF THE SHOW
