If the names sound familiar to you, its because they’re two of the three lucky American Idol 8 contestants (the third is 21-year-old mom Alexis Grace) who will be this season’s Top 12! =) Danny Gokey, the one who lost his wife 7 months ago, apologized to people who felt he had an unfair advantage in the early stages of the show (his sob story has won widespread sympathy and attention). David Gokey told reporters,
“I do feel like I was highlighted [by 'Idol' producers]. I didn’t do anything to get that … I have no control over it. It’s a bummer when people are mad about it and I hope people can see past that. This is a sob story. I don’t want it but it is shaping my life and it is causing hope for a lot of people … There is a fun side of me that’s going to come out. I apologize to everybody if they feel like it’s shoved in their faces, but it’s me.”
Meanwhile, Texas oil worker Michael Sarver who has two young children and has been profiled as a hard working American, said the exposure had helped him win crucial early support with viewers. He told reporters, “I acknowledge that the hard working American is part of the appeal. I believe real life Americans can relate to me … It’s not that my life is bad, but it is tough.”
